FREEPORT/LUCAYA, GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND,
March 24, 2009 – On Tuesday March 31, at 11:00A a press conference will
be held at UNEXSO along with the BAHAMAS MINISTRY OF TOURISM, PELICAN
BAY HOTEL, INTERNATIONAL LEGENDS OF DIVING and VINTAGEDOUBLEHOSE.COM.
Notable U.S. and Bahamas Diving Legends will be available for interviews
– see outlines of Legends bios below.
The purpose of the event is to recognize both U.S. and Bahamas diving
legends that shaped the early developments of scuba diving, underwater
photography, cave diving, marine research and animal identification.
Nearly 100 guests including divers and non-divers are expected to attend
the event.
Grand Bahama Island was chosen as the site for the International Legends
of Diving event because of its rich cultural, history, spectacular
beaches, and shopping. Also UNEXSO is the home of the first dive
training and resort center to teach scuba diving. Since 1965 UNEXSO has
been in the same location showcasing incredible diving off shore,
thrilling shark feeding and our world famous Dolphin Experience.
This event will recognize U.S. and Bahamian Legends of Diving. On hand
will be Ben Rose, Dr. John Clement, Ollie Ferguson and Nick Rolle who
will be joined by John Englander, former owner of UNEXSO; Dr. Jose
Jones, founder of the National Association of Black Scuba Divers; Nick
Icorn, first Executive Director of the Professional Association of Dive
Instructors (PADI) and others for a fun week of activities – and diving.
Joining the Legends of Diving will be a distinct group of scuba divers
from across the U.S. – the VINTAGEDOUBLEHOSE.com. This unique club only
dives in period dive gear from the 1950’s and 1960’s and travel the
world looking for the best dive sites to showcase their one of a kind
diving equipment. UNEXSO is pleased to welcome the vintage divers to
Grand Bahama Island.
We encourage you to join us to learn more about this unique event being
held for the first time in the Bahamas.
