The sixth annual Legends of Diving
Festival series continues at Portage Quarry near Bowling Green, OH the
weekend of August 12-14, 2011. The legends who crafted the sport
and profession are honored each year the second weekend of August.
Thousands of dollars of prizes and 2 dive trips to be given away

Among the prizes is a MISTRAL double hose regulator rebuilt by Vintage Double Hose.
Dr Jose Jones, Alec Peirce, and Robert Croft will be featured at
the Legends Event. Also returning is Victor Worst, Ohio native,
US Navy diver (retired), and owner of the oldest dive shop on the
East Coast, Aqua Sports.
Alec Peirce, from Scuba 2000, returns with an assortment of memorabilia
from the famous TV show, Sea Hunt. His presentation and late night big
screen viewings of Sea Hunt at the inaugural event was a big hit with the
attendees.
Robert Croft, the Father of American Free Diving and another Legends Event
favorite, announced that he will return this year, as well. Croft, with his
early record dives, paved the way for modern free diving.
 1940 Miller Dunn Helmet
The weekend is filled with presentations, scuba diving events-including a
Treasure Hunt and a chance to dive with a 1940 Miller Dunn Helmet- a swap meet,
as well as thousands of dollars of prizes and 2 trip raffles.
This helmet is from the 1940's. You will be able to dive the helmet and get your picture taken. This will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

David C. Woodward, 86, passed away Dec. 9, 2011. (1925 - 2011)
Survived by his wife, Grace "Gay" Woodward; daughters, Tanya Knorr of Atlanta, Ga., and
Kathi Knox of Boston, Mass.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Harrison and David Knorr of Atlanta;

Dr R.W. "Billy Bob" Hamilton Ph. D. (1930 - 2011)
Dr R.W. "Billy Bob" Hamilton Ph. D. died unexpectedly on Sept 16, 2011 of cancer. Dr Hamilton, born on June 6, 1930 in Midland, Texas, was a world renowned physiologist with over 50 years of specialization in diving, aerospace, and environmental physiology. He had an avid interest in decompression, breathing gases, and the effects of pressure. He served as a scientist and director of the world's leading environmental physiology and diving research laboratory at the Union Carbide Research Center in Tarrytown, NY from 1964-1974. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, and his daughters, Lucy and Sally.
Charles "Chuck" Joseph Hepp (1926-2011)
Charles "Chuck" Joseph Hepp died on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at his home in
Klamath Falls in the loving care of close family and friends.
Robert Olson passed away on Friday, April 22, 2011. Olson survived the November attack by a homeless man while on his scooter, but developed pneumonia during recovery and succumbed to it on the 22nd. He was 88 years old.
Dr. Lambertsen, UMS Founding Father Passes Away
at 94 The Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society is sad to inform you that Dr.
Christian Lambertsen, MD has passed away at the age of 94. He was one of the six
individuals responsible for forming, the then, Undersea Medical Society on April
10, 1967. Dr. Lambertsen, as the only civilian, as the other were all US Navy
Officers, was given the job of writing its constitution and was a member of the
first Executive Committee. The first annual meeting of the Society followed on
May 8, 1968 with 88 charter members. There are few who will not have known Chris
Lambertsen in the first 30 years of the Society.
Jane Russell, Actress (1922-2011)
Jane Russell died at her home February 28, 2011 in Santa Maria, California. She was 89 years old.
She starred in one of the first movies showing underwater scenes, called "Underwater" in 1955, a Howard Hughes production.
Midwest Pathologist, Diver, Passes While
Traveling Dr. Allan James Yates, M.D., Ph.D, F.R.C.P., 67, Emeritus Professor in
the Department of Pathology, died suddenly, August 3, 2010 traveling in the
Arctic in East Greenland with his wife Charlotte.
Wes C. Skiles, Underwater Photographer Dies at 53 Legendary underwater photographer Wes Skiles died an unexpected death
Wednesday, July 21, 2010 while filming off the coast of Florida at the age of
53. DAN Recognizes
Two Ohioans with President's Award On July 17 and 18th the TA Dive Club held their 26th Annual DAN Barbeque at the
Portage Quarry in Bowling Green, Oh. Mr. Dan Orr, president of Divers Alert
Network (DAN) and his wife, Betty, were present for the Tater's Treasure Hunt,
as well as the Barbeque on Sunday, where awards and prizes were handed out.
